TV Ads Say S.U.V. Owners Support Terrorists TV Ads Say S.U.V. Owners Support Terrorists
Can these people have any more of an agenda? Their 'argument' is simply that:
A. SUV's use gasoline.
B. SOME gasoline [oil] comes from the Middle East.
C. SOME Middle East oil companies and governments fund terrorists/terrorism.
Thus, SUV's--and the people who drive SUV's [whatever happened to tolerant liberalism?]--are EEEEEE-VIL....[And of course, in quite the subtle move, the 'oblivious man' is named George...]
Let's see, how many holes can we poke in this "logic"....
1. Not all Mideast oil companies and goverments fund terrorism/terrorists; in fact, I would think very few do. Certainly some individuals within those organizations may, but they most likely do not act for or on behalf of the organization.
2. Using their same logic, almost any industry, company, or government should be attacked like this, because in any industry/company, I am sure there is at least one person who spends money on 'bad things'--maybe not terrorism, but perhaps drugs, child p*rn, gambling, whatever. And using the classic 'paint with one brush technique', if Joe Blow, the janitor for XYZ Co. supports illegal drugs, then OBVIOUSLY the whole company is EVIL. [It's the same thing they do with politicians--this politician said a racist/sexist comment, thus all members of his party are racist/sexist. Unless it's Bob Byrd, he can say Sorry and that's ok.]
3. Why SUV's? Last I checked, other vehicles use fuel too. I have a coworker who drives close to 100000 miles a year in a midsize car. When we had an SUV, we drove maybe 15k a year. Which uses more fuel? Not to mention, does Ms Huffington, oh, ever fly? Planes use millions of gallons of fuel each flight. Does she live in say, NY, or LA? Millions of cabs, constantly running, using fuel and pumping crap into the air. Obviously her concern isn't the terrorism link, but an anti-SUV crusade.
