WRAL.com - Entertainment - Company Wants 'Dickie Roberts' Movie PulledGive me a break....What dumb*ss, other than the estimable Mr Roberts, doesn't know that water goes on a SlipnSlide. I mean, if anyone has even seen the commercial for this movie, that itself gives it away.
We need more judges to say Get out of my court, you morons, you don't have or need a case.

Bush takes a page from Clinton book
Wow, Howard, that sure is an objective and neutral opening paragraph you have there. You surely are a paragon of journalism. Let's see, I found this article in News->Politics, implying you are a news reporter.
Keep your opinions to the op-ed page.
And people wonder why the 'media is liberal' mantra is still so valid.

This doesn't even make any sense...
Firstly, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., all lean, if they lean, to the left. That's a given. And the majority of newspapers do also. But even ignoring that point, can these people get any more hypocritical and blind, even to their own comments?
"whatever their foibles, their hearts are in the right place," Andrew Sullivan writes "..."If left-liberalism means anything, it means an aversion to cruelty," Mr. Andrews said.
So they want a radio network, featuring people like "Al Franken, the comedian and author of 'Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot.' " Is that an aversion to cruelty? Not only is it immature and lowest common denominator [come on, calling someone fat? Grow up or go back to junior high, Al.]
Followed immediately by:
"one Eric Alterman, Nation columnist, blogger-cum-lately, conservative-hater"
"Mr. Alterman...said: "I hate to say it, but I wish [Rush Limbaugh] had gone deaf."
"[Alterman] also compares conservatives to Islamic suicide bombers."
It's funny, these guys manage to say this stuff without cracking up. But because their 'intentions are pure,' it's ok.

TV Ads Say S.U.V. Owners Support Terrorists TV Ads Say S.U.V. Owners Support Terrorists
Can these people have any more of an agenda? Their 'argument' is simply that:
A. SUV's use gasoline.
B. SOME gasoline [oil] comes from the Middle East.
C. SOME Middle East oil companies and governments fund terrorists/terrorism.
Thus, SUV's--and the people who drive SUV's [whatever happened to tolerant liberalism?]--are EEEEEE-VIL....[And of course, in quite the subtle move, the 'oblivious man' is named George...]
Let's see, how many holes can we poke in this "logic"....
1. Not all Mideast oil companies and goverments fund terrorism/terrorists; in fact, I would think very few do. Certainly some individuals within those organizations may, but they most likely do not act for or on behalf of the organization.
2. Using their same logic, almost any industry, company, or government should be attacked like this, because in any industry/company, I am sure there is at least one person who spends money on 'bad things'--maybe not terrorism, but perhaps drugs, child p*rn, gambling, whatever. And using the classic 'paint with one brush technique', if Joe Blow, the janitor for XYZ Co. supports illegal drugs, then OBVIOUSLY the whole company is EVIL. [It's the same thing they do with politicians--this politician said a racist/sexist comment, thus all members of his party are racist/sexist. Unless it's Bob Byrd, he can say Sorry and that's ok.]
3. Why SUV's? Last I checked, other vehicles use fuel too. I have a coworker who drives close to 100000 miles a year in a midsize car. When we had an SUV, we drove maybe 15k a year. Which uses more fuel? Not to mention, does Ms Huffington, oh, ever fly? Planes use millions of gallons of fuel each flight. Does she live in say, NY, or LA? Millions of cabs, constantly running, using fuel and pumping crap into the air. Obviously her concern isn't the terrorism link, but an anti-SUV crusade.

Gore: 2000 verdict was ‘crushing’ Sigh....He didn't 'concede', he 'lost'....There were votes and ballots around the country that were either not counted, lost, or were counted twice. Including some that shouldn't have been counted in the first place.
"I respect the rule of law"..?...When did that start? If you did, it wouldn't have had to go to the US Supreme Court...
"he “absolutely” believed he would become president"
"Tipper, said in the Post interview, “I still believe we won.” "
Isn't that a basic definition of insanity, the failure to recognize something as real, no matter how real it is?
", adding that he wishes he had not sighed audibly during the opening debate while Bush was talking. “I was exasperated by some of the things, a lot of the things, that he was saying,” he said"
If a mere debate does that to you, Al, what would happen when you're facing Hussein or Kim across a bargaining table?
And yes, to preempt the arguments; no matter how many single and discrete votes are for whomever, we do, for better or worse, have an electoral system. If you don't like it, the time to change it is now, not during an election when it gives you a result you don't like.

Click10.com - Gun Company Must Pay Teacher's Widow The jury didn't find any liability for Brazill, who pulled the trigger.
Ok, it's official--residents of Palm Beach County, and maybe all of Florida, should no longer be allowed to vote or voice any opinion whatsoever. It's bad enough they allegedly couldn't understand a ballot back in Y2K [and Mr Gore, please, sit down and shut up. It's been over for two years now], but this is just ridiculous. This is just wrong.
I guess it's symptomatic--the cry of today, especially of the left and ACLU and defense lawyers etc is 'It's not my fault' which eventually results in miscarriages of justice like this one. Which only harms the cases in which it's actually *not* the person's fault, due to actual cases of negligence, defectiveness, etc.
To paraphrase Harry Hartounian in the movie The Jerk, 'We don't have defective guns, we have a defective person!'

Faux fireplaces get some respect
"Fake fires “are for lazy people,” says Ms. Catlin, a 53-year-old theatrical director. "
Or for people with allergies and asthma, who are deathly allergic to pine, oak, and virtually all trees--or are we not allowed to have fireplaces?

Juvenile justice
Poor baby, if found guilty he could--and should--get the death penalty. "he picked the wrong week to be a teen-age murderer".
WTF??? How about the 13 victims, ten of whom are dead? They picked the wrong week to be on the other side of a sniping coward's bullet; where's the sympathy for them? Instead, we get not-so-veiled allusions and references to Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying we're like them because we might put this psycho punk to death.

Hmm...
Halfway down:
"Bush has proposed limiting noneconomic damages, which compensate a victim for pain and suffering, to $250,000." While that limit may seem a little low, I think many would agree that it is a logical step--does finding a hair in your burger really cause multiple millions of dollars worth of 'pain and suffering?'
But wait, who might not like a limit on that?
"trial lawyers, who benefit from big verdicts, are among the most powerful Democratic constituencies, "
Trial lawyers benefiting from big verdicts? Most powerful Democratic consitutencies? Why, I thought the Democratic party was the party of the people, the 'common man.' I thought wanting to be rich and make lots of money was an eeee-vil, right-wing, rape-the-earth kind of ideal. What? You mean Democrats like money too? Only they lie about it, and tax the common man so he can never make it into the 'top 10%' of the population [unless he turns into a politician]? I never would have guessed.
If you have a principle, which is thought out and held with reason, then stand by it and be confident in it. If not, sit down, quit polling to find what you should believe today, and quit being the hypocritical SOB's you know you are.

Competition for Netflix? Only to sucker Joe Six-Pack in.....Gee, let me think: Blockbuster's pan and scan, only-recent-Hollywood-hits, give-us-a-PG-version model, where currently you still have to go to the stupid store to pick up; or Wal-Mart, whose selection of dvd's can be dwarfed by, say, mine. Tough call. Think I'll stick with Netflix. I like having choice, and seeing all the movie, not some panned and scanned abomination.

Sigh..the more it changes, the more it stays the same
"They're in an ideological rut," says McBride, who pledges to raise revenue for public schools with a cigarette-tax increase.
Hmmm..and that's not the same? Gee, more money thrown at the school system, from raising taxes, and let's jump on the eeeeevil cigarettes to get it.
"The problem for Bush and his conservative legislature is that their emphasis on testing and vouchers--and controversial tax breaks for businesses that fund scholarships to send students to private schools--seems out of step with the peninsula's apparent new desire to invest in public education."
How about just educating kids? Regardless where it comes from. Isn't that the goal, rather than having more kids shoveled through a school system that teaches them how to surf the internet, but they can't read? Speaking of which, they don't even do that well: from the same article, "poll workers couldn't even boot up many of the new touch-screen voting machines." The problem obviously isn't the technology, after all, these are the same people who couldn't understand a ballot.
And it's funny, the stereotype is that the Republicans are the party of money and greed; but who keeps raising taxes? Whose focus is to "raise revenue"? Usually the Democrats...and yet, nothing seems to improve....I'm not saying all Republicans have the answers, but as long as no one is getting the right answer, let the people--the citizens--us--keep more of our money, since you're not doing anything effective with it anyway.

"Irregularities?"
Oh, Clinton/Reno-speak; "irregularities" means "I didn't win." If "what the numbers look like" can identify "irregularities", then obviously you can read minds and see how people 'wanted' to vote; then obviously we don't need elections in the first place!
Of course, I don't think I'd want people supporting me who are either a)too stupid to know how to vote or b) unable to prepare for an election day with two years of working on the technology.
Goes to show, again, that this Clintonified push for technology at all costs [that resulted in the stock market implosion of the last couple years] can't do a damn thing if you have MORONS using the technology.

CNN.com - Studio offers 'Harry Potter' for download - September 10, 2002
While I'm all for making use of broadband and high tech, to me this sounds, well, stupid.
Okay--so I'm going to pay either 2.99 or 3.99, for library or newer films, using my bandwidth to download up to or over 700 mb....taking 2+ hours to download them....to watch a film on my computer screen, in my office, within 24 hours? If I'm going to pay to download a movie that size, I'd rather wait for Netflix to deliver me one. Or even spend the 2-4 bucks at Blockbuster and get the movie instantly....by the time you finished downloading the movie, you could have gone to BB [or your local video parlor of choice,] picked out a movie, eaten dinner, made popcorn, and settled down in front of your 35" TV with 5.1 surround sound system and started enjoying a flick.
This is sad, because this is exactly what the RIAA and music companies need to do, but I see this failing incredibly with regards to movies.

"Diversity?"
Only for us....
Scroll down to "'Diversity' Defined".
"The official told him "that race and skin color were important issues because 'Baltimore is predominantly black and the state of Maryland has a significant black presence.'" "
Now, if this paragraph were written
"The official told him "that race and skin color were important issues because 'Baltimore is predominantly WHITE and the state of Maryland has a significant WHITE presence,'" the NAACP, Mr Mfume, and the Rev-rund Jackson would have a million people marching there in two day's time. That latter phrase might be called racist, and justifiably so. Why is the former not?
"he says he was not hired because he is "light-skinned, of Afro-Lebanese origin and not an African-American.""
Again, rephrase this as
"he says he was hired because he is "light-skinned, of Afro-Lebanese origin and not an African-American" and you've got an ACLU lawsuit and front pages across the country.
I am certainly against racism, and all for equality, but that goes both ways. The funny, yet sad, thing is, the fellow in question actually is of African-Lebanese descent, has been an assoc. VP for diversity at Univ S. Florida, and has master's degree in African and AfroAmerican History.
But he doesn't LOOK black. Isn't that exactly where we were fifty years ago, only now the shoe is on the other foot? Oh--what's the argument now--Well, it's our turn to be unfair. If that's the case, fine, I can understand a little eye-for-an-eye. But don't be hypocritical liars and say that racism is wrong then, because obviously it isn't, if the 'revenge' motive is of a higher priority.

So who gets this money? Oh, the FTC....another federal regulation agency. So the citizens, the consumers, get stuck with "exorbitant interest rates, deceptive marketing tactics and abusive debt-collecting practices," probably resulting in or exacerbating their "poor credit histories," but the FTC--the government--gets the 200 million?
